Tristan

Tristan is in his early 20’s Quarter horse gelding who was rescued from the Christmas 2015 auction and now lives at our ranch. Tristan is now safely at home and loves playing in his large paddock with his friends Wayne, Beau and Harry. Tristan would love to be sponsored.

Louis

Louis is a 9 years old Thoroughbred gelding who arrived in early December 2015 at Castleton’s sanctuary. Louis was part of a large rescue by one of our partner groups in Northern California when the breeding farm he was at closed due to insolvency. Louis received extensive training by our partner group over a period of one year however he could not make the transition to become a safe riding horse.

Louis is a very sweet and handsome horse and we are happy that he will be spending the rest of his life at Castleton Ranch. Louis is named in honor of one of our donors who recently passed away.

We hope that Louis can find a sponsor.

Rodney is in his late teens Thoroughbred who came to Castleton Ranch from the racetrack. Rodney sustained a very severe bowed tendon during a race. Although he bowed the tendon someway before the finish line, he kept racing and almost won. He is a very brave horse because he must have been experiencing much pain. Rodney is permanently retired at Castleton Ranch and has a very happy life with his friends. We hope that we can find a sponsor for this brave fellow.

Teddy

Hello my name is Teddy Bear. I was rescued by Castleton Ranch from an auction. The person who was trying to sell me said that I was a 6 year old quarter horse. However the freeze mark on my neck told a different story. Lucky for me Castleton Ranch were at the auction and knew something was not right. They made sure that they purchased me. After getting me back safely to the ranch, Castleton set about to try and discover who I actually was. After some time they did. I was not a 6 year lod quarter horse everyone had been told but I was a 10 year old Standard Bred pacer who had been racing in Canada. I had been sold to someone on New York, then to someone in California and then I was sent to an auction. After examination by a vet, it was discovered that I had been winded and could not breath properly when moving faster than a walk. I have now been at Castleton for 10 years and enjoy my life here very much with my best friend Elliot.

Teddy Bear is sponsored by Noelle Jones Allen. Thank you somuch Noelle. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Trudy

This is Trudy in her mid teens Thoroughbred mare. Trudy came to Castleton Ranch from the racetrack after she badly injured a fetlock joint. Although the joint has healed sufficiently for her to roam around her paddock, our vet has said that she can never take the weight of a rider and should be retired, which she happily is. Trudy is a very sweet mare indeed and we hope that she can find a sponsor.

Simon

This is Simon, in his late teens Thoroughbred gelding. Simon had a very traumatic beginning to his life when only one hour old, he was viciously attacked by his mother who almost killed him. Although a mother attacking her baby is very rare, Simon did suffer deep wounds which severed muscles in his neck and stomach. He had to be seperated from his mom immediately. Simon was not expected to survive, but he did. Simon was one of the the horses which we rescued just in time from the hands of the killer buyers from the farm which closed down. Today Simon enjoys his life quietly in a paddock with his friends. He is a special horse and we are honored to have him at our sanctuary.

2024-07-24T05:41:58-07:00

Beau

Beau is in his mid teens Thoroughbred gelding who lives in a paddock at our ranch with his best friends Harry, Wayne and Tristan. Beau was born at Castleton Ranch after we rescued his mother Joan when she was pregnant from a breeding farm that closed down. Beau will be a permanent resident as he was born with a conformation error in his front legs calling toeing out, which means his front legs turn out from the knee down. Although this does not cause him any pain, he would not be comfortable to be ridden. He has a very laid back personality and enjoys playing with his buddies in a large paddock.

2020-02-21T08:58:41-08:00

Kauri

Meet Kauri, in her early 20’s Thoroughbred mare. Kauri was at the racetrack until fracturing her knee. Kauri had nowhere to go until Castleton stepped up and gave her a forever home. 2020-02-21T09:08:24-08:00

Stephanie

Stephanie is in her mid teens Thoroughbred and she is a permanent resident at Castleton Ranch due to an injury to her hip which prevents her from being ridden. After a lot of rest in her own corral, she became comfortable enough to join some of the other retired mares in a large pasture. She has settled in well and enjoys just being a part of the herd.

2022-06-22T07:42:13-07:00

Bobby

Bobby is in his late teens Thoroughbred and he is a permanent resident at Castleton Ranch due to severe injury to his tendons and ligaments in both front legs. Bobby resided in his own corral for a long period of time during the healing process, but we are happy to say that he has recovered enough to now share a paddock with a few other horses. Bobby has settled in to his new paddock very well and he enjoys the companionship of his new friends.

“We would like to say a big thank you to Elliott Kleinberg and family from Los Angeles for kindly sponsoring Bobby. Thank you so much.”

2020-08-20T08:09:05-07:00

Bryan

Bryan is a very sweet, in his mid teens Thoroughbred. Bryan requires his own corral due to a fracture sustained to his knee and a damaged tendon which overlies the knee joint. Bryan has healed very well and although he is a little restricted as far as bending the joint, he is much more comfortable. Since arriving, his very sweet but mischievous personality has really come out. He especially enjoys sneaking up behind you when you are cleaning his corral, grabbing your hood or your sleeve and then running away again very proud of himself.

Thank you so much to Debbi from Niceville in Florida for sponsoring  Bryan. We are very grateful for your kind support.

2020-02-21T09:09:20-08:00

Poppy

Poppy is in her early teens Thoroughbred mare and she arrived at Castleton Ranch after sustaining a fracture to her cannon bone. Poppy required the best part of a year in her own corral to limit her movement to a walk, but in that time she has healed very well. Although she can never be a riding horse due to the strain it would put on her weakened leg, she is able to share a larger paddock with her companion Amber.

2020-02-21T09:09:38-08:00

Narnia

Narnia is in her early teens Quarter horse cross mare. After she started some basic training to help her be comfortable around people, it was noticed that her movement was not as smooth and easy as it should be. After examination, it was determined that she has an issue with her back and would benefit from being turned out with a few of the retired mares for a while so she can take things at her own pace. Narnia has really grown to love attention and would let you scratch and groom her for hours if you have the stamina.

Many thanks to Cynthia from Newbury Park for very kindly sponsoring Narnia.
