THE HORSES
Nina
Nina is a lovely and shy Thoroughbred mare in her late teens. She lives happily in a large paddock with her best friend Harmony after they were both rescued in 2018 from a breeding farm that suddenly closed down and did an online auction to relieve themselves of all the horses. Nina enjoys eating Mrs. Pastures Cookie for horses and snoozing under her paddock’s shade trees.N
Gracie
Sweetie and Spirit
Nikki
This lovely lady is Nikki, a Paint mare who came to Castleton in November 2021 after a good Samaritan rescued her from a most horrible situation. Nikki’s story has been well documented on our Facebook page. Nikki made such a wonderful recovery from her life-threatening injuries and now lives happily and safe with all her new friends here at Castleton.
Harmony
Harmony is a lovely and kind Thoroughbred mare in her late teens. She lives happily with her best friend Nina after they were both rescued in 2018 from a breeding farm that suddenly closed down and did an online auction to relieve themselves of all the horses. Harmony enjoys eating carrots and snoozing under her paddock’s shade trees.
Aria
Aria is a Thoroughbred Mare in her early twenties and one of the six pregnant mares rescued in the fall of 2018. Aria lives at the ranch with her son William who was born at the ranch in April 2019. Aria is super sweet and loves attention. She lives happily in a large paddock with her friend Mary.
Aria has various old injuries that she obtained from her racing career many years ago that have begun to give arthritis problems, but she gets about well with the help of her daily supplements.
Blue and Dusty
Meet Blue and Dusty who arrived in April 2021 from another rescue that could no longer afford to care for them.
Blue is a 10 year old half mustang half Quarter Horse gelding who was rescued from a very abusive man who thought it was a great idea to just whip him to get him to do what he wanted. He also carved a brand into Blue with a knife! Eventually this person abandoned Blue, because he was difficult to ride and always tried to buck him off. After examination by the vet it seems Blue has pinched nerves and a damaged vertebrae and should never have been ridden.
Dusty is a stunning and charming 11 year old Quarter horse. Dusty has suspensory tendon disorder in his back legs making his fetlocks slope down to the ground. He is in no pain or discomfort this early in life, but the vet said no riding, to preserve his comfort and allow him to live as full a life as possible. The condition will some day cause full lameness but with proper care he can easily live happily into his 20’s
Jake
This is Jake, a Paint gelding in his mid 20’s who was rescued in 2015 from a local auction. Jake has had a very hard earlier life where he was made to “dance” and has suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of previous owners, including leg and joint fractures that are now arthritic.
Today, Jake lives happily in a paddock with his friends where they can all live out their golden years together in peace and harmony.
Karina
This is Karina. She is in her mid twenties. Karina was rescued from an auction in 2015. She is a very nice little horse with a wonderful disposition. She is always glad to spend time with you especially when getting groomed. We hope that Karina can find a sponsor.
Spirit
This is Spirit. She was rescued in early 2018 from an Auction. Spirit is in her late twenties. She is such a sweet horse and spends all of her time close to her friend that was rescued from the same auction, Lucy. We hope that we can find a sponsor for Spirit.
Oro
This is Oro and he lives at our ranch. He is in his early twenties. Oro was an owner surrender who could no longer care for him due to ill health. We were happy to provide Oro with a permanent loving home. He sure is a beautiful horse and is super sweet to match. Let’s hope that we can find a sponsor for him.
Indy
This is Indy and he is in his early twenties. We rescued him from an auction which was taking part on the day after July 4th 2016. This is why he became to be called Indy. He gained his independence when we rescued him. He is such a super sweet little guy and is loving his new life at our sanctuary. We hope that he can find a sponsor for this lovely little horse.
Madison
Madison is a Thoroughbred mare in her late twenties. She was rescued from an auction where the only other person interested in her was a kill buyer. Castleton secured Madison and she now lives at our sanctuary. She is just the sweetest horse you could meet and she shares her paddock with Chardoneigh. They are just the best of friends.
We would like to say a big thank you to Debra from Encinitas for kindly sponsoring Madison. It is in memory of Slim. We are very grateful for your kindness.

Nancy
Nancy is in her mid teens, small Quarter horse who lives at our ranch in a paddock with her friends Cindy and Patrick. Nancy has never been able to be ridden due to a neurological condition and likes to live life at a slower pace with older friends. She is however rather bossy when is comes to meal times and keeps moving the other horses away in search of remaining senior feed. Nancy is very sweet and loves attention, she would love to find a sponsor.
James
James is a wonderful, sweet and gentle Palomino is in his late 20’s Quarter horse who was rescued from auction in March 2016. Due to arthritis James can no longer be ridden and has daily medicine to help his condition. James lives happily in a paddock with his new best friend Chardoneigh, who was rescued at Christmas 2015 from the same auction. James is very friendly and loves children, it would be wonderful if he could be sponsored.
Daisy
Daisy is in her mid 20’s Thoroughbred mare who has been at Castleton for 2 years and now lives at our ranch in a large paddock with 5 other mares. Daisy likes her own space and tends to keep to herself although she is rather fond of the geldings in the paddock next door. Daisy is very good at food and adores carrots and apples. We would love Daisy to find a sponsor.
Shashie
Shashie is an 18 year Quarter horse mare who has been at Castleton Ranch since 2014 and lives in a paddock with her best friend Zenya. They like to do everything together including dining from the same bucket, sleeping in the same barn and playing bounce the Jolly Ball. Shashie is extremely good at food which is a shame as she puts on weight very easily.
Shashie has been sponsored by Rachelle from Utah, thank you Rachelle.
Kiera
Kiera is in her early teens Thoroughbred mare who lives in a large paddock with 5 other friends at our ranch. Kiera is not able to ridden due to a hind leg injury suffered at birth. She is able to get about fine though and can sometimes manage a good run and buck if the feeling takes her. Kiera has a lovely nature and just likes to hang around with her friends all day. She would love it if you could sponsor her.
Misty
Misty is in her early 20’s Quarter horse mare who we rescued from an auction in January 2016 along with her best friend Saffron. Misty lives in a large paddock and likes to take life at a slow pace once breakfast and dinner are out of the way. Misty has an old back injury which prevents her from being ridden but she gets along fine and is a nice and well mannered lady to be around. Misty would love to be sponsored.
Cassidy
Cassidy is in her mid teens Quarter horse mare who has a neurological disorder called Wobblers Syndrome. Despite being a bit uncoordinated she is able to get about fine and lives at our ranch in a paddock with her friends Charlotte and Amanda who both suffer with the same syndrome to a lesser degree. Cassidy is very sweet and loves attention and carrots, she would really like to be sponsored. Although Cassidy is being sponsored, The Ark have donated a gift to help further with her sponsorship.
Thank you so much to Debbi from Niceville in Florida for sponsoring our beautiful horse Cassidy. We are so grateful to Debbi for her kindness and support. Thank you so much Debbi.

She has been with Castleton since December 2015 and lives with her friends Trudy and Brooke. Isabelle is a very sweet lady and loves attention and other horses.
